All the proposals have embodied public involvement activities in the preparation of the proposals as well as planned programs. Although participation at the local level was limited, attempts were made to systematically increase stakeholder involvement, local consultations, as well as regional and national workshops. The public involvement strategy proposed in the Bermejo project is an example of a multi-layered and multi-sectoral approach. The participating countries are committed to decentralizing project operations by creating a binational commission and multisectoral project coordinating committee involving NGOs and the private sector into future development strategies.
