GEF—Development Marketplace PartnershipSince November 2005, the GEF has been collaborating with the Development Marketplace (DM), a competitive grant program of the World Bank that funds innovative, small-scale development projects. Read more about the Development Marketplace Why is the GEF Partnering with the Development Marketplace?Through this partnership the GEF plans to reach out to civil society groups, governments, private sector, and other organizations at the local level. How is this different from other GEF funding options? The GEF has developed a two-year $5 million program with the Development Market Place for funding smaller projects using an expedited procedure. It will help break down barriers for funding and promote innovative entrepreneurial ideas at the grass-roots level. When is the next call for proposals? The date has yet to be finalized, but the next call for proposals will be in the second half of 2006. Details will be published on this site as they become available. What type of projects will be funded? For the 2006 round of proposals, projects to be considered included those promoting renewable energy technologies, the protection and restoration of important wetlands, the reduction of water withdrawals from groundwater aquifers, and viable and cost-effective alternatives to persistent organic pollutant products. Details of preferred project themes for the next round will be published in due course. How can I find out more? This page is updated regularly.
