Mision Statement
Enhance global environmental benefits through excellence, independence and partnership in monitoring and evaluation.
The Office has responsibilities in three main areas:
Evaluation – we independently evaluate the effectiveness of GEF projects and programs
Norms – we establish monitoring and evaluation standards
Oversight – we provide quality control for monitoring and evaluation by Implementing and Executing Agencies of GEF projects and programs
Because Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) is a shared responsibility within the GEF, we work in close partnership with:
- The GEF Secretariat
- The GEF coordination units of the Implementing Agencies (UNDP, UNEP, and the World Bank) and the Executing Agencies (ADB, AfDB, EBRD, IADB, UNIDO, FAO, and IFAD)
- The evaluation offices of the Implementing Agencies (UNDP, UNEP, and the World Bank) and Executing Agencies (ADB, AfDB, EBRD, IADB, UNIDO, FAO and IFAD)
Our goal is to improve accountability of GEF projects and programs and to promote learning, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
All of our evaluation work is guided by the GEF Monitoring and Evaluation Policy [French ] [Spanish] of February 2006.
