African Constituencies Host Meetings

 

The following three African constituencies hosted constituency meetings just prior to the November Council.

1. Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda,
Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda. Mogos Woldeyohanes, the Council Member representing this constituency, hosted this constituency meeting in Eritrea from October 18-19, 2007.

2. Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal. Carlos Monteiro, the Council Member representing this constituency, hosted this meeting in Cape Verde from October 24-25, 2007.

3. Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Policarpo Napica, the Council Member representing this constituency, hosted this meeting in Mozambique on October 29-30, 2007.

Agenda items for these meeting included a review and discussions on the outcomes of the June Council Meeting, preparation for the upcoming November meeting, and discussions on GEF policies, including the implementation of the RAF, the funding available for adaptation projects, GEF revised focal area strategies, and the Sustainable Investment Programme for Sustainable Land management. Countries also discussed how to integrate GEF more closely into regional activities and enhance communication among countries. In addition, countries shared experiences in implementing RAF projects.
