Global Environment Leadership Award

Established in 1997, the Global Environment Leadership Award annually honors a head of state or government, or a leader in industry or the non-governmental sector who has led significant national or international actions over a sustained period to protect the global environment.  An open nominations process is conducted, followed by a panel review involving a group of prominent environmental leaders from around the world.
