OPERATIONS

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a financial mechanism that provides grant and concessional funds to recipient countries for projects and activities to protect the global environment. GEF has defined four areas for its programs: biodiversity, climate change, international waters, and ozone. Projects financed by the GEF are managed by three Implementing Agencies: The United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Environment Program and the World Bank. The GEF Secretariat is functionally independent of, but administratively supported by, the World Bank.

In preparation for its third replenishment and second Assembly, the GEF is arranging for the second study of GEF’s Overall Performance (OPS2), and is seeking experts with the following qualifications and expertise:

Specifically, the review team will assess GEF’s results and preliminary impacts in its focal areas, as well as GEF’s overall strategy, policies and role, operational policies and programs, and institutional structure and procedures.
